Internet television network Netflix did an end-zone victory dance late Thursday when it reported strong viewership numbers for its Christmas Day NFL football games and Beyoncé halftime show. But Netflix stock fell Friday.
On the stock market today, Netflix stock dropped 1.8% to close at 907.55.
Netflix stock reached an all-time high of 941.75 on Dec. 11.
The streaming video leader said its two NFL games on Wednesday reached nearly 65 million viewers in the U.S. alone, according to Nielsen.
Netflix's first NFL game, Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, recorded an average minute audience of 24.1 million U.S. viewers. The second game, Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans, drew an average audience of 24.3 million, helped by a halftime show featuring music superstar Beyoncé.
Beyoncé's performance attracted more than 27 million viewers in the U.S. Also, Netflix is repackaging her performance as a stand-alone special.
"Bringing our members this record-breaking day of two NFL games was the best Christmas gift we could have delivered," Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said in a news release.
Global ratings and additional U.S. insights will be released on Dec. 31, the company said.
This year marked the first of a three-season partnership with Netflix to broadcast NFL games on Christmas Day.
Netflix stock is on the IBD 50 list.
