Netflix Stranger Things link sees Kate Bush tribute act inundated with bookings

A Kate Bush tribute act has been inundated with bookings since the one of popstar's classic 80s hits appeared in a hit Netflix show. Moments of Pleasure - fronted by Lisa-Marie Walters - are riding a wave of success after Running Up That Hill appeared in Stranger Things.

The song was first released in 1985, but reached number one again last week - some 37 years later. Lisa, 39, said her band had seen a huge surge in bookings and social media followers thanks to the song featuring in the show.

The singer, who lives in Bristol with her husband Rob and their four children, said: "I watch Stranger Things anyway and I love the show! It's brilliant and I love the 80s nostalgia.

"I heard the rumours that a Kate Bush song was going to be used in quite a poignant way early into season four before I watched it, but we had no idea it would gain so much attention. I thought the scene was incredibly powerful - the beautiful orchestral version of the song was just amazing and it moved me to tears. It really just shows how meaningful music is, and I think it resonated deeply with many people."

Lisa says Moments of Pleasure were used to getting booked for one gig every two to three weeks. But, since Stranger Things aired, they have received 12 bookings in the past two weeks - as young fans continue to listen to more of Kate Bush's discography.

The band has also seen its followers on Facebook surge from 3,900 followers to 4,626 new fans. Before Running Up That Hill hit number one two weeks ago, the band was gaining about 10 new followers a week on its Facebook page. And they've even seen one video of theirs - where they performed 'Cloudbusting' by Kate Bush - amass a whopping 34,000 views with some viewers mistaking Lisa-Marie for the real popstar.

She said: "Running Up That Hill is a fantastic song. Although it's impossible for me to choose a favourite song by Kate Bush, it's definitely in my top five - I love the tribal drum beat.

"We noticed a surge in bookings pretty immediately after the episode hit Netflix. When we get bookings now, everyone is talking about Stranger Things.

"We always play Running Up That Hill anyway, but we are being asked if we will be playing it when we get new bookings now. Kate has always had a huge and very dedicated fan base, but we are now seeing younger people at our shows, which is wonderful.

"What is brilliant is that it's not just Running Up That Hill that is getting attention - some of Kate's albums are back in the charts too. So a whole new generation are listening to her back catalogue. We couldn't ask for more really."
