Netflix's You CANCELLED after 'fifth and final season' as fans left 'crying'

Netflix 's You has officially been renewed for a fifth season, though the streaming platform has also announced that it will be the final instalment of the popular TV show.

The show - which debuted with its first season in 2018 - follows serial killer and stalker Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley ) and other characters who are in his life.

It was confirmed earlier this afternoon that the show will conclude with its "fifth and final season" next year, with the news coming shortly after the release of its fourth season.

The news was announced on social media and a teaser clip showing scenes of the lead character Joe, before revealing that the show would return once again but for a final time.

Alongside the clip, the official account for the show wrote in the caption: "Goodbye... YOU. Joe Goldberg will return for the fifth and final season of YOU in 2024."

The announcement has disappointed some fans, with one responding: "I'm crying literally like literal tears are building up in my eyes". Another said: "I don't want it to end".

A third asked: "Final season??? How could you do this to us?" Another said: "Not the last season, nooo, please". A fifth wrote: "Once it ends I'm going through the stages of grief".

Another reacted: "I am going to miss this show with all my heart and soul". One fan said: "How am I supposed to live without YOU?" Another wrote: "Final season? I am literally crying right now".

"What do you mean final? I need more Joe antics," commented another fan over the news. Whilst one said: "I'm not ready to say goodbye. This series is too good".

Some fans described the news as "bittersweet" and one commented: "So happy that [it's returning] for another series ... but absolutely gutted it's going to be the final".

Not everyone seemed devastated over it though, with some fans suggesting that the show has run its course. One person commented: "It is time to end the show."

Another said in response to the news of its final season: "I think that's a good choice!" A third wrote: "All good things must come to an end. Looking forward to next season".

The announcement comes following the second part of the fourth season having been released earlier this month. Fans seemed divided over the ending of that season.
