Netflix's The Crown spotted filming in Scottish town as sixth season underway

The Crown is currently filming its sixth season in St Andrews, as it is set to showcase the Prince and Princess of Wales first meeting and early relationship.

Prince William met his now wife Kate Middleton at St Andrews University where they lived together in student housing before beginning a relationship. Actor Ed McVey, 21, who will play the Prince throughout his late teens and early twenties, was seen filming scenes for the show in the Fife town on Tuesday.

Meg Bellamy, 19, who is playing Kate in the show, has also been seen filming scenes around the Scots town. Meg was seen dressed in jeans, a white shirt and blue jacket, sitting in the window of the pub Molly Malones and then leaving it carrying books as he crossed the road.

The pair graduated in 2005 and briefly split up in 2007, before rekindling their romance and getting engaged in 2010. William and Kate tied the knot in 2011, and have since welcomed their three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West will reprise their roles as Diana, Princess of Wales, and the then-Prince Charles, with Imelda Staunton continuing as Queen Elizabeth II and Jonathan Pryce as the late Duke of Edinburgh.

Ed McVey, 21, will play Prince William in the Netflix series (PA)

The controversial Netflix series focussed on Charles and Diana's marriage breakdown in the fifth season, including the phone-hacking scandal and the late Princess' infamous BBC Panorama interview.

The last season of the show focused on the marriage breakdown of Charles and Diana and the leaked phone calls between Charles and Camilla. Several roads have been closed as filming continues to take place over the next few days in the area.

It's been reported that Prince Harry's Nazi uniform scandal will also feature in the new season of the hit show. In January 2005, the Duke of Sussex attended a friend’s fancy dress-themed birthday party in a Nazi uniform, complete with swastika armband.

Discussing the incident in his Netflix series, Harry said that wearing the costume was “probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life”. An insider told The Sun that the party, which had a “natives and colonials” theme, will play out in the historical drama series.

In his book Spare, Harry claimed that William and Kate had encouraged him to wear the costume and “howled” with laughter at the suggestion.
