Production for the hit Netflix series The Crown, which follows the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has begun and first-look images have been released of the actors playing a younger Prince William and Kate Middleton. Some filming has already taken place in Scotland.
Ed McVey will play Prince William and Meg Bellamy is starring as Kate Middleton. Younger child actors have already portrayed Prince William in The Crown in previous series and the sixth series is the first time viewers will meet Kate.
The sixth series will show the couple while they are at St Andrews University in Scotland which is where the couple met. In the pictures, Ed bears a striking resemblance to a young Prince William and in one of the photos the young pair are walking along hand in hand. Ed, who is 22, studied acting at the Drama Centre London in 2021 and has starred in various plays such as Rosmerholm, Government Inspector, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Pains of Youth.
Aside from his uncanny resemblance to Prince William, it has been claimed that Ed was given the role due to his ability to speak with the ‘Queen’s English’ accent as reported by Harpers Bazaar. Meg, who was born in 2003 in Berkshire, attended St Crispin’s School in Wokingham, Berkshire where she was head girl.
She has previously worked as a performer at Legoland and starring in The Crown will be her first professional role. A Welsh teenager will be playing Prince Harry in the show. Fflyn Edwards, 14, from Cross Hands in Carmarthenshire is taking on the role of the younger prince.
