Netflix's Terminator Zero Anime Series To Debut On August 29

Pokémon Terastal Debut The Pokémon Anime

Netflix has released the first trailer for Terminator Zero, a reboot of the popular Terminator franchise. The teaser introduces viewers to a thrilling storyline set in Japan, where a dark artificial intelligence named Skynet is waging a bloody war on humanity. The protagonist, Eiko, voiced by Sonoya Mizuno, is a resistance fighter sent back in time to protect Malcolm Lee as he develops an advanced artificial intelligence called Kokoro to combat Skynet.

In the trailer, Eiko boldly declares, “There’s only one thing standing between you and him… Me!,” as she takes on a dystopian cyborg assassin from the future. The series, created by Mattson Tomlin, is set to premiere on August 29, also known as “Judgment Day,” and will go head-to-head with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Amazon Prime Video.

The voice cast for Terminator Zero includes Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator, Rosario Dawson as Kokoro, and Ann Dowd as The Prophet, a guide for the human resistance. The show is set in 2022, where a war between humans and machines has been ongoing for decades, and in 1997, when Skynet becomes self-aware and launches its attack on humanity.

Terminator Zero, an eight-episode anime series produced by Japanese studio Production IG and directed by Masashi Kudo, promises to introduce new characters and is the first animated iteration of the Terminator franchise. The series is helmed by showrunner and writer Mattson Tomlin, with executive producers from Skydance.

In 2023, Skydance Animation announced a partnership with Netflix to create animated films for the streaming platform, further expanding the collaboration between the two entertainment giants.
