Fresh off the pages of Roald Dahl's classic novel Netflix have released their first trailer for Matilda – a film adaptation of the novel turned film and popular West End musical. The nw film, which boasts an all-star cast, tells the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination.
Matilda is directed by Matthew Warchus who also directed the musical version. It is produced by Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan alongside Jon Finn and Luke Kelly of The Roald Dahl Story Company. The songs and music from the musical adaptation by Tim Minchin are also being used in the film. One of the musical's best-loved songs, Revolting Children, features in the trailer. The Royal Shakespeare Company production has been adapted for the film by the original scriptwriter Dennis Kelly.

Who is in the cast of Matilda?
Nanny McPhee's Emma Thompson stars as the menacing Miss Trunchbull in a role that was originated by Doctor Foster's Bertie Carvel on the West End. Also featured is No Time to Die's Lashana Lynch as the lovely Miss Honey.
Irish actor Alisha Weir, from Knocklyon in south Dublin, has taken on the role of the magical and powerful six-and-a-half-year-old Matilda. Weir previously featured in 2018 thriller Don't Leave Home and 2020 family comedy Two by Two: Overboard!. Meanwhile Line of Duty's Steven Graham is portraying the sleazy Mr Wormwood. He is joined by Black Mirror's Andrea Riseborough who has taken on the role of Mrs Wormwood.
When is Matilda released on Netflix?
Matilda is scheduled to release on the streaming platform on December 2, 2022. It is set to be the first of many other Roald Dahl adaptations on the service .In March 2020 Netflix announced it would also be adapting The Twits and 'many other beloved Dahl stories' into animated series.
