Netflix releases first look images of The Crown season 6, part 2, including a shot of Kate in that dress

Netflix has just released brand new, first look images of The Crown season six, part two, which will be landing on the streamer on December 14.

They don't half promise a thrilling end to the season, with shots of Meg Bellamy as Kate Middleton, talking to Ed McVey's Prince William in a nightclub, and walking in her now infamous sheer dress at the charity fashion show. There are also images of Bertie Carvel as Tony Blair speaking to cameras outside 10 Downing Street, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in their finest, and Harry and William enjoying each other's company, laughing on a sofa, which feels particularly poignant right now.

The final ever chapter of the award-winning show has been broken down into two parts. The first four episodes, which were released on November 16, focused on the last months of Diana’s life on the run up to the horrific Paris accident that took her life.

The last six episodes will focus on the effects of the fallout of her death on her immediate and the Royal family, and the public. They will also follow Prince William as he attends St. Andrews University and meets his future wife, Kate Middleton.

The Crown’s all-star cast has returned for its concluding series, with Dominic West returning to play Princes Charles, Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce playing Prince Philip and Lesley Manville playing Princess Margaret.

Speaking about playing Prince Charles in the closing chapter, West said: "There were some really heavy scenes this season and a lot of tears for Charles. There are a lot of the scenes of Charles trying to come to terms with [Diana’s death] and breaking the news to his sons, trying to help his sons mourn and having varying degrees of success at that."

Season six part one immediately whizzed to the top of Netflix's most-watched English-language series, raking in over 36.9 million watched hours in the first week after it was released.

The Standard gave the series four out of five stars, with Melanie McDonagh saying, "It’s Diana who dominates The Crown, as she did in life... Diana’s story as presented here is, I think, convincing and compelling; my daughter, 16, however, thought it was completely yuck. There remain another six episodes of this season, but really, with the departure of Diana, the lights have gone down."

However, speaking about the upcoming season on The Crown's official podcast, showrunner Peter Morgan said: "In season six, the arrival of William and Kate and Harry just blows the doors off. You want to see them. It happened in the read-through. You could just see everyone was looking up and looking at each other across the room. And every time William spoke, it was like, 'Oh my God, this is just riveting.'"
