Netflix has confirmed that the fourth season of smash hit comedy-drama Sex Education will be the last. The news was announced as the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season was released this July for the Welsh-made show.
Sex Education has been running since 2019 and focuses on the lives of students at the fictional Moordale High School. The series - which returns on September 21 - has received both critical acclaim and viewership success, with over 40 million viewers streaming the first season after its debut. The show is famously shot in Wales using locations in Wye Valley, Penarth and Rhondda during past series, more on those, here.
Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee Lou Wood and Connor Swindells lead the cast of the series, alongside Hollywood’s Gillian Anderson as sex therapist Jean Milburn. Are you sad that the show is coming to an end? Let us know in the comments.

The new trailer sees Butterfield’s character Otis take centre stage in front of his peers. Hoping to re-open his sex therapy clinic at the college and introduce everyone to his practices, he gives a speech about how he can't stop thinking about sex.
Following the announcement, numerous fans took to social media to share their sadness that the series is ending. One person wrote: “Final season? PAIN”
A second added: “this came out from nothing, i am ready and not at the same time!! so sad it’s the last season.” And a third said: “FINAL SEASON? PLEASE NO.”
A fourth person commented: “Give Ruby & Otis their happy ending,” suggesting what should happen in the new season. And a further person shared: “THE FINAL SEASON WHAT!????? @sexeducation @netflix YOU CANT.”
