Netflix makes a change long-time subscribers will absolutely love

Millennials and Gen Xers rejoice, Netflix (NFLX) -) is throwing a bone to its first generation of customers with a giveaway that is sure to release some nostalgia endorphins.

The television production studio and streaming service announced over the weekend that it will allow customers to keep its DVDs as the company begins to sunset the mail-in movie model that made it a household name in the first place.

DON'T MISS: Netflix just made a move that's sure to upset its customers

Netflix has been operating the service through DVD.com, but earlier this year the company announced that it will be shutting down the service on September 29.

The company originally told customers that they would have to return the rented movies by October 29, but the company announced that it will not charge for unreturned discs after that date. You can keep those final DVDs you rented for just the price you paid to rent them.

Lucky subscribers can also enter to win up to 10 extra discs shipped to them on the final day of service that they can keep forever.

Netflix's sudden generosity comes at a time when the company is desperately looking for was to increase its profitability as its stock price recovers from the year-to-date lows it hit earlier this year.

In July, the company confirmed that it has quietly shuttered its cheapest ad-free subscription tier.

Now, the company's cheapest ad-free options are the standard and premium tiers which cost $15.49 and $19.99 per month, respectively.

The 'Standard' tier still costs $6.99 and features ads and that option has proven to be lucrative for the Netflix.

Meanwhile the cheapest DVD.com subscription from Netflix goes for $9.99 per month and allows users to have one disc out at a time before they have to return and get the next movie on their list mailed to them. For 14.99 per month you can have two discs out, and for $19.99 you can have three.

That is, until the program shuts down after 25 years at the end of September.
