Netflix leaves fans devastated after announcing season five of You will be the last

Netflix has left viewers incredibly upset, by announcing that popular 'original' series You will come to an end in 2024.

The bittersweet news comes just weeks on from the show's season four finale, which left fans on a complete cliff hanger - speculating when they will see serial stalker and killer Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) return to screens.

And while it has been announced that the show will be back as soon as next year, Netflix also told fans that it will be the 'fifth and final season'.

In an announcement posted to Twitter, Netflix said: "Brace yourself for Joe Goldberg's final chapter. You will return for a fifth and final season in 2024!"

The accompanying clip showed Joe saying 'hello you', with clips from all four seasons so far - before the screen fades to black with Penn's character adding: "Goodbye, you."

A message then pops up, reading: "You the fifth and final season. Coming in 2024."

And while fans were most excited to hear that You would be returning as soon as next year, they were also devastated to find out that it would be the fifth and final instalment of the highly-successful show - which initially debuted in 2018.

The replies section of the post on Twitter quickly found itself flooded with messages from heavy-hearted fans, old and new - each airing their grievances that the show will finally come to an end. One, wrote: "Not to sure how I’m meant to feel about this news. Happy that it’s coming back for another season… Sad that it’s actually coming to an end!"

Another, added: "Why is it ending? Nooo," while a third, penned: "Only 1 more season I’m not ready I need more."

A fourth, continued: "I'm really unhappy with the fact that the 5th season will be the final one, but I'm glad that we will see Joe for another 10 episodes. Congrats for one of the greatest Netflix shows!" while someone else, said: "NO A FEW MORE SEASONS PLEASE!!! ALL MY FAVE SHOWS R ENDING."

However, others were happy to see the show come to a close - complaining that season four was 'boring' and 'drawn out'. One, said: "No one is complaining ...bring it on!" while another, commented: "I mean season 4 was pretty awful. Only the last couple episodes redeemed it. The comedy/parody approach to Britain, as a Brit was unbearable."
