Netflix drops brand-new trailer for real life Squid Game show - leaving fans confused over 'deadly' stunts

Netflix just dropped a trailer for a disturbing new reality TV series based on the massively-watched South Korean drama known as Squid Game. As an explainer to those who somehow missed the show first time around, Squid Game is a fictional survival drama, where 456 debt-ridden people are handpicked to compete in a tournament to win a truly life-changing sum.

₩45.6 billion (US$35 million, €33 million, or £29 million at the time of broadcast) is up for grabs in the dystopian gameshow, but there's a bit of a twist. Those who fail to pass the challenges on a round-by-round basis are eliminated in a number of gruesome ways.

Shortly after launch in 2021, the drama was described as Netflix's 'biggest TV show ever' and following its widespread success, the streaming giant announced that they would be attempting to bring the show to life. It has now released the trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge, citing that the show will be landing on the platform come November.

The Mirror reports that inspired by the original show, it all takes place in a warehouse which has been used to construct an elaborate set - where contestants battle through a series of games and challenges. The ten-part competition will see entrants attempt to bag a grand cash prize of $4.56million (£3,736,054) as they are watched by a similar all-seeing doll from the original series.

They're all also sporting similar green tracksuits that the contestants wear in the initial Netflix hitter. In the same vane of the murderous television show, there will be 456 real life players entering the game, with numerous contestants eliminated on a round by round basis.

Strategies, alliances and characters will be put to the test, as all of the competitors try to bag that life-changing sum of money. Thankfully, the streaming giant confirmed that failing parties would not face the deadly consequences of the drama series upon elimination - simply left with the fate of returning home empty handed, thinking about what could have been.

After watching the teaser on social media, many viewers were left in a state of confusion over what the 'deadly' stunts will entail. One, wrote: "Will the contestants live afterwards?" while another, joked: "Can someone explain the "becomes reality" thing...I'm confused lol."

Another, added: "There's something really weird when a show about massive economic equality exploited for folks entertainment, spawns an actually gameshow to make money for corpos..."

Netflix also announced at Tudum 2023: A Netflix Global Fan Event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, that The Acolyte star Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo would be returning for season two of the show Squid Game.

It also teased new cast member from South Korean boy band ZE:A singer Yim Si-Wan, actors Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon, and rapper, record producer and actor Yang Dong-Geun will also be starring as new players.
