The return date of hit Netflix series The Crown has been confirmed, and fans don’t have long to wait until they can watch the new season.
The streaming giant confirmed that the royal drama, which depicts a fictionalised version of events surrounding the royal family during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II , will launch on November 9 . The exciting news was announced during Netflix’s Tudum event, which showcases the films and series coming soon to the platform.
Filming on the latest season was paused following news of the Queen’s death on September 8, and filming was also suspended on the day of the monarch’s funeral as a mark of respect. The upcoming season will be the show’s fifth - it was initially due to be the final season of The Crown, but the show’s creator and writer Peter Morgan later revealed that the popular show will be extended to a sixth season.

The new season will once again see the main cast members change to depict the royals at a later stage in their lives. While Claire Foy initially played the Queen, Matt Smith played Prince Philip and Vanessa Kirby played Princess Margaret when the series began, the actors were replaced after the second season.
Olivia Colman went on to depict Her Majesty in seasons three and four, alongside Tobias Menzies as the Duke of Edinburgh, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles. The fourth season also saw the introduction of Emma Corrin as Lady Diana, as well as Gillian Anderson playing Margaret Thatcher.
Now Imelda Staunton will take over the role of the Queen for the fifth season, while Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Phillip and Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret. Meanwhile, Dominic West will depict the role of Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana.
The date of The Crown’s return was just one of the announcements that Netflix viewers were treated to during Saturday’s event. The streamer also gave a sneak peek at the third series of Bridgerton, as well as a first look at prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Fans were also shown a clip from Tim Burton’s Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, and confirmed that the third season of Emily in Paris would return on December 21. Teasers were also shown for the upcoming new seasons of fantasy series Shadow And Bone and psychological thriller You.
