Netflix confirms Black Mirror season 6 release date and five new episode titles

Netflix has announced the release date of Black Mirror season six, including the titles of five new episodes.

In April, the streaming giant announced the return of the dystopian series five years after its last instalment. Created by writer and satirist Charlie Brooker, the sci-fi anthology series presents stand-alone dystopian stories that explore themes of contemporary techno-paranoia.

Often likened to a modern take on The Twilight Zone, it proved a huge success when it launched on Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix. Speaking to Netflix, Brooker said the latest series will contain some unexpected twists alongside the “familiar Black Mirror tropes”.

Season six will feature a star-studded line up including Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, House of Cards star Kate Mara, Superbad’s Michael Cera and WACO actor Rory Culkin. Josh Hartnett, Catastrophe star Rob Delaney, Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz, and Hollywood icon Salma Hayek Pinault will also star.

In a tweet on Thursday (May 31), Netflix UK shared a new trailer and confirmed the season six release date. The five new episodes appear to be called: Joan Is Awful; Loch Henry; Beyond The Sea; Mazey Day and Demon 79.

The trailer shows that one of the episodes has its own version of Netflix called Streamberry - but, as ever, not is all as it seems. Brooker previously said of the sixth season: "The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through – but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”

He explained: “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect. Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is."

Black Mirror Season Six premieres on Netflix on Thursday, June 15.
