Netflix has added a warning to Stranger Things season 4 in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting.

The new series of the hit show begins streaming on Friday with the first episode including a recap of the previous season.

In this scene, the character Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) uses her supernatural telekinetic powers to kill almost everyone in the Hawkins laboratory, including children.

While the show was filmed more than a year ago, the release comes just days after a devastating school shooting where 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot and killed 19 students and two teachers at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

The warning, which will only be viewable to those watching in the US, reads: "We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing.

“We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one."

The streaming giant has also decided to tweak the description of the show to include a warning, saying: “Contains graphic violence involving children."

Stranger Things is set in 1980s Indiana and follows a group of school-age friends as they embark on a whole host of adventures, from supernatural sightings to unravelling political secrets.
