Netflix Acquires Sitcom 'Tires' From Comedian Shane Gillis

Netflix acquires 'Tires' sitcom from comedian Shane Gillis.

Netflix has recently acquired the independently produced sitcom 'Tires' from stand-up comedian Shane Gillis, who not only stars in the show but also serves as an executive producer. The six-episode scripted comedy, which was self-financed, is set to premiere on May 23. In addition to this acquisition, Netflix has struck a deal with Gillis to produce a new stand-up special, marking his second collaboration with the streaming platform following the success of 'Beautiful Dogs' last fall.

'Tires' revolves around the character of Will, played by Steven Gerben, who is depicted as the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain. Will endeavors to revamp his father's business despite facing constant challenges from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Shane Gillis).

The show is directed by John McKeever and is a product of Gillis' and McKeever's production company, Dad Sick Productions. Alongside Gillis and Gerben, the creators, writers, and executive producers of 'Tires' include John McKeever. The cast also features Chris O'Connor, Kilah Fox, and Stavros Halkias, with guest appearances by Andrew Schulz.

Shane Gillis, known for his previous work on 'Gilly and Keeves,' has been making waves in the comedy scene. Despite a controversial stint on 'Saturday Night Live,' Gillis has continued to build his career, with his Netflix special 'Beautiful Dogs' ranking in the platform's top 10 for several weeks. His comedic prowess has been recognized at various comedy festivals, including Comedy Central's 2019 Clusterfest and the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

John McKeever, Gillis' frequent collaborator, has an impressive resume that includes writing for major networks like MTV, Tru TV, NBC, and Comedy Central. He has also appeared on shows such as Tru TV's 'Almost Genius' and HBO's 'High Maintenance.'

Looking ahead, Shane Gillis is scheduled to perform at the 2024 Netflix is a Joke Fest in Los Angeles, showcasing his comedic talent to a wider audience. With his unique brand of humor and growing popularity, Gillis continues to solidify his presence in the entertainment industry.
