Former President Donald Trump revealed in an interview that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's team had requested a meeting with him, which is set to take place at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort on Friday. Trump emphasized the importance of meeting with both sides to resolve issues and move forward.
Netanyahu is scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday and is also expected to meet separately with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The State Department described Netanyahu's meeting with Trump as a 'fairly routine event,' highlighting that such interactions between foreign leaders and political figures are common.
A State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, explained that it is standard practice for heads of state and government to meet with political parties and nominees for president while in the United States. He cited Secretary of State Antony Blinken's past meetings with opposition leaders during his international visits.
