Netanyahu Predicts 'Victory' In Gaza Within Weeks

Ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, in Gaza City

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed confidence that victory in Gaza and the capture of Hamas' senior leadership are imminent. Speaking to a bipartisan group of US members of Congress, Netanyahu stated that Israel has eliminated several top Hamas leaders and is determined to apprehend the remaining key figures. He emphasized that victory is within reach and could be achieved in a matter of weeks.

Netanyahu hosted the congressional delegation in Jerusalem, highlighting the importance of bipartisan support, particularly during challenging times. He justified Israel's military actions in Rafah, citing the country's existential threats as the driving force behind the operation.

Despite facing international criticism over the planned offensive in Rafah, Netanyahu defended the move, suggesting that displaced Palestinians could relocate to other areas in Gaza. The prime minister's remarks underscored the escalating tensions between Israel and the US, with disagreements over the military operation and humanitarian concerns in Gaza straining relations.

Following a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Netanyahu's decision to cancel a government delegation visit to Washington further underscored the rift between the two allies. US officials, including Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, urged Israel to explore alternative options to avoid civilian casualties and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Rafah.

While discussions between US and Israeli officials have yet to yield concrete agreements on the Rafah operation, both sides have committed to ongoing dialogue at a working level. The rescheduling of the Israeli delegation's visit to Washington indicates a willingness to engage in further talks on the contentious issue.
