Nemanja Matic has revealed Manchester United discussed controlling possession more at half-time against Atletico Madrid.
United drew 1-1 with Atletico on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 in Spain.
United conceded within 10 minutes when Joao Felix's header found the back of the net and they were poor throughout the first half, however, Ralf Rangnick made multiple changes and his interventions from the touchline got United back into the game.
Anthony Elanga was brought on from the bench and scored United's equaliser, three days after scoring against Leeds.
Matic admitted United knew they had a difficult first half after the game and he opened up on what was said during the break.
"Watching from the bench, especially first half I thought that we are missing control with the ball and when I came on the coach also told me to try to keep the ball more, to calm down and to help my team-mates," he told MUTV
“[At half-time] we knew that they had more control, they were leading and they had some more chances in the first half, but we said ‘Okay let’s regroup, let’s see what we can do with the ball’.
"I think that we didn’t control enough when we were in possession. In the second half we looked much better, more solid and we scored that goal which gives us positive feelings.”
