Nelly apologises for sex tape leak and says clip was never meant to go public

Nelly has apologised after posting a clip of a sex tape to social media.

The Hot in Herre singer - who last month told Madonna to 'cover up' in her sexy Instagram snaps - has claimed the now-deleted snippet was "never meant to go public".

The X-rated clip - which was screen-recorded by many fans before it was swiftly deleted - showed the rapper, 47, receiving oral sex from an unknown woman.

On Tuesday, Nelly - whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr - issued an apology to the "young lady" who appeared in the clip posted to his Instagram Stories.

"I sincerely apologize to the young lady and her family, this is unwanted publicity for her/them,' the dad-of-two told TMZ.

"This was an old video that was private and never meant to go public.'

Although Nelly's face was not visible in the footage, fans who viewed the clip claim he can be heard in the background of the clip, as he received oral sex.

The rapper trended on Twitter on Tuesday, as fans reposted the deleted snippet that originally appeared on the star's Instagram Stories.

"It’s weird how celebrity sex tapes aren’t shocking anymore, poor Nelly leaking his own tape," one Twitter user mused, as they shared a screen-recorded version of the X-rated clip.

"The search for Nelly’s sextape begins," another tweeted, on the hunt for an unauthorised version of the footage.

One Tweeter shared a popular reaction GIF of Drake to quip: "Me scrolling Twitter looking for this Nelly video yall talking about."

As hundreds of tweets discussed the clip - in particularly the size of the penis featured in the footage - Marielle Songy urged people to think before they reposted the now-deleted Instagram Story.

"Reminder that the woman in the Nelly video didn't give consent for the video to be shared, so maybe don't share it," the journalist suggested to her followers on Tuesday.

According to TMZ, Nelly's team are claiming the Dilemma singer may have been hacked.

Speaking to the publication, the rapper's representatives said they're currently investigating a breach and are worried more of Nelly's private content could also end up online.

The star's Instagram Story saga comes just weeks after the Country Grammar rapper told Madonna to 'cover up.

The Queen of Pop, 63, treated fans to some new steamy snaps last month - flashing her pert bum in several of the shots posted to Instagram.

Amongst the thousands of comments complimenting the mum-of-six on the pictures, Hot in Herre rapper Nelly was also there to offer his opinion on the saucy shoot.

While the majority of the snaps were relatively tame, one image sees the Material Girl singer flashing a bit of bum cheek thanks to ensemble that involved fishnet tights and skimpy lace French knickers.

Madonna's social media update prompted Nelly, 47, to leave a comment offering his unsolicited advice.

"Some things should just be left covered up," the rapper quipped under the iconic singer's steamy shots.
