Neilston looking to right the wrongs in cup games

Neilston's Co-manager, Derek Carson, is looking to bounce back this week after last weekend's poor performance against Johnstone Burgh.

The ‘Ton gaffer says that the performance against Johnstone Burgh was one of the worst since himself and Chris Cameron had come in but feels that this weekend will be a chance to put that right.

Neilston are set to face Forth Wanderers at home in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup with Carson saying that putting a better cup run together this year, compared to last, is one of the aims for the club.

He said: “Everyone knows that it is good to put on a good cup run, and last year I felt that it was a tough draw that we kept getting as it was all Premier League sides.

“However, it was a good test for us and I feel that this year our aim is to build on that and go and put in a strong performance in the cup.

“I have heard good things about Forth and they will be well prepared for this game, so we need to make sure that we are positive from the start.”

Neilston had started the league in strong fashion as they currently sit in second place gaining seven points from their opening four games, but have been hit with a depleted squad in recent weeks, as they only could name three subs last weekend.

However, Carson said that players are coming back, with the squad now looking healthier in time for Saturday’s match.

He added: “It was tough, and I am not making excuses as Burgh deserved to win it but we only had three players we could name on the bench, with two players not able to train that week due to work commitments.

“To walk into this game with a healthier squad that could allow me to name 5/6 on the bench is great and the players are looking forward to it.

“Training this week has been really good and after a chat on Tuesday about what we could do better and take out of the game, we are ready to go.

“Fourth will be coming at us, even though they are in the division below, they will be looking to get a result here.”

Co-Manager, Chris Cameron, who will miss this week's game, said he wasn’t pleased with the overall performance last week. After the weekend's defeat, most of the players played in a testimonial match and according to the Neilston manager, Saturday can’t come quick enough.

The match will kick off at the Brig O’Lea Stadium at 2pm today.
