Hey hey, my, my, Neil Young is being pulled from Spotify.
Young published a letter Monday requesting that his music be pulled from the popular streaming platform over his objection to COVID misinformation being spread by podcaster Joe Rogan on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Rogan is Spotify’s most listened-to broadcaster.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, that process is underway.
A Spotify spokesperson reportedly told the entertainment outlet the popular audio platform strives to balance public safety and creative freedom and hopes the “Rockin’ in the Free World” singer will reconsider his position.
“We regret Neil’s decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon,” Spotify said.
Young’s letter to his management team, which was reported on by Rolling Stone, asked that immediate action be taken to end the spreading of “fake information about vaccines — potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them.”
“They can have (Joe) Rogan or Young,” Young told his team. “Not both.”
Spotify said it has removed more than 20,000 COVID-related podcast episodes since the start of the pandemic.
Rogan’s podcast, said to have 11 million listeners, was accused of a “history of broadcasting misinformation” by nearly 300 medical professional who delivered a petition to Spotify in January. That followed a New Year’s Eve “Joe Rogan Experience” featuring COVID vaccine skeptic Dr. Robert Malone.
Spotify did not immediately respond to a Daily News request for comment.
