Neil Warnock has come out of retirement to take charge of Championship strugglers Huddersfield on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Bristol City's old foe called time on his 41-year coaching career in April having last managed Middlesbrough in November 2021. However, the relegation-threatened Terriers have persuaded him to have one more swansong in the dugout to help ensure their Championship status.
Huddersfield, who sacked Mark Fotheringham last week after just 21 games, suffered another loss against fellow strugglers Wigan at the weekend. It leaves them second from bottom without a win in their last seven games in all competitions.
The Huddersfield board have turned to Warnock for his experience in an attempt to climb the table. If he's appointed, he will become their fourth manager this season following Carlos Corberan, Danny Schofield and Fotheringham.
The 74-year-old managed 16 different clubs over his career including Severnside rivals Cardiff City where he earned promotion to the Premier League in the 2017/18 season. He was linked with a return to the Bluebirds in January after they sacked Mark Hudson.
Upon his retirement, Warnock spoke of his regret that he never had the opportunity to manage Bristol City. He enjoyed a memorable rivalry with the club that stemmed back to 2008 when Jamie McCombe scored a 97th-minute equaliser against his former side Crystal Palace.
There was also no love lost with Gary Johnson following further controversial incidents including Freddie Sears' 'ghost goal' before labelling Lee Johnson an "absolute disgrace" in response to comments made before a game between Bristol City and Warnock's Rotherham.
Following his retirement, when asked about the clubs he would have liked to manage, he told talkSPORT: "There's been one or two. I turned Chelsea down which was a big thing in those days and I should have gone to Sunderland.
"Bristol City has always been one. Even though I've been up against their fans here and there deep down I respect them and that's a big miss for me."
Warnock will reunite with City on March 7 when the Robins make the trip up north to The John Smith's Stadium. His first game will be against Stoke City on Wednesday before they host Birmingham on Saturday.
