Neil Warnock set for Leeds United reunion after sealing new Huddersfield Town deal

Former Leeds United boss Neil Warnock will lock horns with his old side again next season, after the 74-year-old agreed a new 12-month deal at Huddersfield Town.

Warnock was parachuted in at Leeds' West Yorkshire rivals in February and succeeded in dragging the Terriers out of the relegation zone and securing their place in Championship with a game to spare. After initially playing down the prospect of returning for anther season, Warnock has now put pen to paper and will be back alongside his assistant Ronnie Jepson.

That means Warnock will be able to reacquaint himself with the Leeds United supporters, following his 14-month spell at Elland Road between 2012 and 2013, which brought a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Championship.

Like Leeds, Huddersfield Town are also in an ongoing takeover saga, with owner-in-waiting Kevin M. Nagle able to convince Warnock to extend his second spell at the John Smith's Stadium for another season.

Warnock will talk to the media later on Wednesday, but Town's newly-appointed CEO Jake Edwards has spoken about how pleased he is to remain the services of Warnock and Jepson: “We’ve heard Town fans loud and clear, both at the Reading game and ever since," he said. "You all wanted ‘one more year’ under Neil and Ronnie, and this had to be our first order of business as we prepare for the new season.

"Neil and Ronnie have incredible knowledge and skill as a management team; that was clear in the job they achieved here at the end of last season. They also have an amazing connection with this Club and our supporters, which is also so valuable.

“We’re so pleased Neil has agreed to stay on for another season. I know how determined he is to build on the job he’s done last season, and he offers us great experience and stability on the football side as we prepare for the prospective change of ownership.”

Leeds will discover when they are to face Huddersfield Town when the Championship fixtures are released next Thursday.
