Neil Warnock believes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been the best forward in England for some time - but says World Cup disappointment wouldn't have helped his form.
By his high standards Salah has been struggling following Egypt's World Cup qualifying and African Cup of Nations final heartbreak. His last league goal from open play for Liverpool came back in February in the 3-1 home win over Norwich City.
But Warnock believes the dip in form isn't the result of the 29-year-old's effort. The former Middlesbrough, Cardiff City and Sheffield United manager told Sky Sports News ahead of today's big match at Manchester City: “I look at him and there is no lack of effort.

“He has probably been the best player there has been in the last couple of years, forward-wise in England. I think the disappointment wouldn’t have helped with the World Cup [Egypt not qualifying]. He has come back and you expect him to go again now.... some of his finishing.
“Their front three, it just promises to be such an intriguing game – we are very lucky to have these two teams (Liverpool and City) like this.”
Salah will hope to remind everyone why he's considered one of the best players in the world when Liverpool take on City at the Etihad. He still leads the way at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts, with 20, although Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min isn't too far behind with 17 after he scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win at Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa on Saturday.
