Neil Parish formally quits as MP after watching porn in Parliament

Neil Parish watched X-rated material in the House of Commons

NEIL Parish has formally resigned as an MP after admitting to watching porn in the House of Commons.

The Treasury announced it had accepted the Tiverton and Honiton representative’s resignation on Wednesday.

A statement read: “The Chancellor of the Exchequer has this day appointed Neil Quentin Gordon Parish to be Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead.”

Appointing an MP to the position is one of the mechanisms used to allow them to resign from their office.

The Tory announced he would quit as MP for the Devon constituency on Saturday after admitting that he had twice watched pornography in the Commons chamber.

The disclosure earlier in the week that two female Tory MPs had seen a male colleague viewing adult material on his mobile phone triggered renewed concerns about unacceptable behaviour in Parliament – particularly towards women.

He told the BBC that the first time was an accident, claiming he had been looking for photographs of tractors, but admitted the second occasion was intentional.

It comes 24 hours after Tory Imran Ahmad Khan resigned as an MP after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
