Neil McCann in blistering Alfredo Morelos Rangers pop before hasty U-turn over 'boy's an idiot' blast

Neil McCann has launched a blistering on-air assessment of Alfredo Morelos after his double against Hearts - before immediately stepping back on his scathing verdict.

The Colombian forward netted a double in the sweeping 3-0 win for Michael Beale's men at Tynecastle, keeping them nine points behind Celtic in the title race. On both occasions, Morelos his trademark knee slide with a fingers on lips directed to peeved home supporters. But it did not impress Ibrox favourite McCann, who wasn't enamoured with the pantomime villain who is out of contract at the end of the season.

While his performance was impressive, his antics when celebrating were not. On co-commentary duty for Sportsound as VAR reviewed his second Rangers strike after initially being judged as offside, McCann pleaded: "If this is a goal, I hope he doesn't go and wind up the Hearts fans again as there is no need for it."

But his cries weren't heard, and McCann gave his frank thoughts as Morelos wheeled away to celebrate, before almost immediately stepping back with praise added as he was subbed: "There's he's away again, the boy's an idiot.

"The boy's an idiot. I just don't understand it, he gets his goal and I think he has been good tonight, but I don't know why he is doing that.

"He is just antagonising the Hearts fans and all it takes is someone taking umbrage to that and launching themselves over the barriers. There's no need, maybe it's a bit strong to call him that, but I don't see why he wants to do it.

"I thought he was really good tonight, take all that nonsense aside. He could have had a hat-trick and his performance was excellent."
