Neil Emerson inquest - an apology

On July 25, the Echo online published an inquest report into the tragic death of Neil Emerson, a former Royal Navy officer who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

The article was headlined inappropriately. Further, the report contained a prominent video of an incident involving Mr Emerson which, again, was inappropriate in the circumstances. We apologise sincerely for any upset caused.

We would also wish to make it clear that the drugs found in his body were prescribed and there was no evidence at the hearing to indicate that Mr Emerson took his own life. Nor was there evidence of alcohol misuse.
