Neil Doncaster has 'lucrative' SPFL notice period as notions Rangers legal action could threaten position 'tempered'

It will cost the SPFL around £800k if they are to part company with Neil Doncaster, it has been claimed.

Rangers are about to take legal action against the league after recieving permission from the Scottish FA to do so. The cinch dispute between the SPFL, Ibrox side and Park’s Motor Group is the latest controversy to bring chief executive Doncaster's leadership into question and if he 'is forced into such a public climbdown it may prove damaging to him reputationally.' But his exit will not prove cheap.

According to The Herald, the former Norwich man has a 'lucrative' contract including a two-year notice period. It is stated 'there is nothing illegal or improper about Doncaster being in possession of a two-year notice period, but it is highly irregular,' with Doncaster taking home £392,000 in 2022 after bonuses were factored in, up from £388,000 the previous year according to the SPFL accounts.

The report also states ahead of Rangers' legal action that 'any notion that his position may come under threat because of the way that deal was handled has to be tempered by the additional sum it would directly cost the clubs to remove him from his post.' The decision to extend Doncaster’s notice to 24 months was taken by the SPFL remuneration committee around the summer of 2021.

A source close to the SPFL said: "Issues such as the chief executive's contract, and all such matters, are dealt with and approved by the board following a rigorous and detailed process."
