Neighbours' relief after houses shut down by landlords and police in Radford

Concerned neighbours have spoken about about the drugs problem in their area after two houses were shut down by landlords and the police to stop crime. An address on Gregory Boulevard which was linked to the supply of controlled drugs and a further address on Thurman Street was closed by landlords after officers made contact.

The houses were closed in recent months. Some locals had concerns about drug dealing in their area.

Peter Thompson, 70, and Teresa Thompson, 52, who live on Thurman Street, said the area had a history of being affected by drugs crime. "It's always drugs around here, that's all it ever is. It's more down the other end of the street that there is a problem," Peter said.

Teresa added: "I know somebody got kicked out down there. There's a lot of drug dealing going on."

Touqeer Khan, 31, who had only moved onto the street three weeks ago and works at Boots, said: "I've not noticed anything too bad on this street or anything unusual.

"You do hear people arguing on fighting in other houses. I have seen the police a few times but not a lot."

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I didn't know anything about it. There are problems in this area with drugs and crime.

"Hopefully it will help the area. It can't be good for the landlords either if their property is being used like that."

Police confirmed the house in Gregory Boulevard was shut down in May and the property in Thurman was was shut down in July.

Inspector Paul Ferguson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The neighbourhood and Reacher team have been busy executing several drugs warrants across the area. We have successfully worked with a landlord to close an address on Gregory Boulevard which was linked to the supply of controlled drugs and a further address on Thurman Street.

"The feedback we have received from the community and partners following these has shown there has been hugely positive impact on the local community. Although there have been successes, we are not complacent and will continue to tackle ASB and criminality in the local area."

A City Council spokesperson said: “We worked closely with Nottinghamshire Police to take action against residents who were causing significant issues for neighbours through their drug-related anti-social behaviour. We provided supporting evidence which helped to secure and extend Closure Orders and led to the tenants being evicted. We are pleased that this collective action has provided much-needed respite for neighbours.”
