Neighbours star Stefan Dennis teased fresh details on the reboot of the hit Australian soap after it was confirmed to be returning to screens on Amazon.
The soap star appeared on Tuesday morning’s instalment of Good Morning Britain ahead of the brand new series.
He told co-hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls what longtime fans of the soap can expect, after it was cancelled last year after over three decades, leaving viewers heartbroken.
Stefan, who played cold-hearted and ruthless businessman Paul Robinson in the soap opera from its first episode in 1985, said it will be ‘interesting’ to see what storylines the rebooted soap holds.
Fans bid farewell with a very special finale, featuring appearances from the soap's biggest names over the years – before Amazon Freevee confirmed they would be picking up the soap for a very special reboot.
The show, which kick-started the careers of Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie and Guy Pearce, will go back into production within months – with new episodes later this year.
Referring to Kylie and Jason’s return for the finale last year, he said: “Kylie and Jason's wedding is probably still the iconic moment of Neighbours.
“The saying goes that there were as many people watching the wedding over here as there was the population of Australia.”
Ed asked if there was any possibility the pair would return to Ramsay Street, among the numerous familiar faces already lined up, including Jackie Woodburne, Alan Fletcher and Ryan Moloney, who play Susan Kennedy, Karl Kennedy and Toadie Rebecchi respectively.
Stefan said: “Never say never is what I say. Look what’s happened with the show.”
The new show will air on Amazon Freevee in the UK, meaning fans can watch without paying. In Australia, it will return to its home of Network 10, where it has aired for the past 36 years.
It is expected that filming will begin soon with the soap set to air in the second half of 2023.
Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD original content and programming, Amazon Studios, said at the time: "Neighbours has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street.
"With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favourite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers."
