Neighbours heard "loud bangs" as a van was engulfed in flames in the middle of the road.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to Fountains Road in Kirkdale at around 10.26pm on Friday, July 8, following reports of a van fire. One fire engine arrived at the scene, where Merseyside Police had already cordoned off a large section of the road in both directions, firefighters got to work putting out the blaze.
The white Volkswagen van could be seen parked outside the front of a shop, with visible damage to the cab. It also appears the shop shutters are damaged, but it is unclear if this is linked to the incident.

One eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said there was a "loud bang" before they heard police sirens outside.
They said: "I heard a big bang and smoke was everywhere. The bang sounded like a push, like a firearm when clay pigeon shooting."
The ECHO understands the incident is being treated as a potential arson attack and Merseyside Police are investigating the incident.
