People living near to roadworks which will be carried out for 16 weeks fear it wiull be a "nightmare" for them. Neighbours feel the works on the A610 near Bulwell will be "crazy" as from the Bell Lane roundabout to the A6002, the outside lane will be closed for four months.
This is so roadworks can take place to implement a new bus lane and further bus priority measures, which will help improve the reliability of services, according to the council. In addition to the changes for bus services, the works will also help improve the road for cyclists and pedestrians and make it safer by reducing the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph in certain zones.
On its website, Nottingham City Council state that "the outside lane will be closed for 16 weeks" and the removal of this lane "will result in delays to traffic." It continues: "To undertake the works, an outbound (M1 bound) traffic lane on the A610 around the Cinderhill roundabout will be barriered off to provide a safe working zone for the construction team.

"Pedestrian routes will be maintained, however there will be some footway restrictions, closures of push button crossings and localised diversion routes which will lengthen journey time. Additional diversion routes will be required for resurfacing works towards the end of the project, further information will be provided nearer the time."
However, residents in the area are not happy with the plans and feel there has been too many roadworks lately. Retired Philip Darby, 57, said: “To be honest I’m not happy with it, for the past two years it’s been every month that they have been doing roadworks down there and closing the roads off.
"It’s bad enough in rush hour but when you are stuck and you can’t get out it’s frustrating. They are always blocking the roads."
He continued: "We’ve had a nightmare with it. Since lockdown it’s been shut more times than I can think of.
"It’s just been a nightmare.” Nearby resident, Martin Brian, 61, is also frustrated, and said: “I’ve always suggested that they have traffic lights in all directions.
“As when you go down you can’t even pull out because there’s too much traffic on the A610.” He explained that there was a roundabout nearby that had similar issues, but was changed into a traffic light junction, which he described as “lots better now.”
He continued: “No matter where you go you have roadworks and I don’t know where they are all coming from. I work in the city centre so I see loads of them.”
A 50 year old in the area who did not wish to be named said: “It’s just a little stretch, it’s a small bit of the road, probably less than 100m. It’s going to affect everyone, it’s going to be crazy out here.
“Meanwhile the pot holes are getting bigger and bigger. There’s just no common sense and why will it last four months.”
Sharon Davis, 60, works in a nearby cob shop, said: “I thought they were getting rid of the roundabout. That would do something for congestion.
“It’s a waste of time. They need to sort the pot holes out, that’s what they need to do.”
