People living next to a construction site in Lenton where a huge new student accommodation is being built are 'fed up' with work starting early on mornings, weekends and bank holidays. The buildings are being created off Derby Road for a new 700-bed student complex.
However, despite the noise of construction, one Lenton resident, Judith Morgan, 66, is pleased to see more students coming to the area. She said: "I'm very happy with the students, it's changed Lenton.
"I've lived in Lenton since 1981 and Lenton Boulevard is thriving as far as I can see. There was a time when everything was closing down so they bring a lot of economy into the community.

"I think it's great having the students in Lenton." However, not all residents in the area agree. An 81-year-old resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "They have been starting at about half past six. You sort of put your fingers in your ears and try to go back to sleep.
"These things have to happen so if they are daft enough to do it that's fine by me." A 47-year-old who did not want to be named said: "The main problem has been with the site on Triumph Road."
He explained that one of his elderly neighbours has already moved out due to the construction and that "we are being driven out as well. We are looking to do a few things to do to the house and then put it for sale.
"Residents are really upset and in tears, they have been working on bank holidays and on Sundays. All we are hearing all the time is the lorries bleeping in and out, that reverse warning bleep."
He explained that during the earlier construction work the ground was shaking from the steam rollers on the site, and that cracks have since appeared around his home. He said: "You could feel it through the ground, the tremors, and this carried on for about a week and a half.
"We've just had enough, everyone is fed up with it all." Another resident who did not wish to be named said that the construction work "is horrendous."
"Sometimes they start at ten to 7, it's always before half past." When asked when they first started to work early, she said: "It was about April or May and they were working on Sundays.
"It woke me up every morning. It's right near to where I live, it's on my doorstep." She has made complaints but feels "like nothing is happening." Residents have reported the noise and improper work times to Environmental Health at Nottingham City Council.
A spokesperson from the city council has said: "It is the responsibility of developers and builders to make sure that the scale and timing of construction activity in residential areas is proportionate and respectful towards people living close by. Our Environmental Health team has received complaints from a number of residents relating to noise on two large building sites off Triumph Road and Radmarsh Road, which are separate projects managed by different companies.
"We monitored both sites and unfortunately observed excessive noise at unreasonable times of the day and at weekends. Officers have contacted the two companies with initial warnings, and it is our hope that the situation can be resolved without further legal action being necessary.”
