Neighbours fans make huge demand as Kylie Minogue shares emotional tribute to axed soap

The markings appeared to be on the wall for the Australian soap but fans have been left gutted by the news that Neighbours will be axed after 37 years.

It has been announced that the long-running soap will cease production in June. It comes after the future of the show was left in doubt after Channel 5 confirmed it would stop airing the show last month.

An official message was sent on Thursday morning (March 3) from Neighbours' verified Twitter account.

It featured an apology to the soap's loyal fanbase and added it had "no option but to rest the show" due to the "loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK."

The tweet added: "To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high.

"From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours."

One of the show's most memorable stars Kylie Minogue has since responded to the news.

Replying to the tweet, the actress turned pop star said: "I'll be forever grateful for the experience & the friends I made on @neighbours. We had no idea how big the show would become and how passionately viewers would take it to heart. Pure love!"

And in an emotional hark back to her time on Ramsay Street, the 53-year-old said: "I can still hear Madge calling … CHARLENE!!!!"

Her response soon garnered plenty of attention from fans of the soap who were very clear in their hopes as they made a demand.

@yasmin_ali10 tweeted: "Please come back ONE LAST TIME @kylieminogue with @JDonOfficial. We need Scott & Charlene back for the FINALE please. xx @kylieminogue."

"Scott and Charlene need to go back and see Paul and Roxy one last time to make it a goodbye to remember !!! We love you Kylie," @galfor said.

@msmansk echoed: "You and @JDonOfficial need to return ASAP!!!!"

"Get those overalls from the back of the wardrobe neighbours needs you back," @ramsayrules shared.

@kristimbrell requested: "We need Charlene and Scott to be in the final episode. They get out of a car and Charlene looks to Scott and says 'We’re Home.'"
