Neighbours have told of their devastation after a 23-year-old man died in a crash in Gorton. A section of Hyde Road was closed for hours after a Range Rover smashed into a phone mast at around 2.50am today.
A huge emergency services response was called to the scene. Greater Manchester Police said the front passenger in the Range Rover - a 23-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger - both men - were taken to hospital.
Officers believe an Audi A3 may have been involved in the incident. The driver of the Audi - a 23-year-old woman - has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She remains in custody for questioning.

As officers from the serious collision investigation unit (SCIU) attempted to piece together exactly what happened, nearby residents were left shocked by the tragedy.
One woman said: "We've all just had to get off the bus because it couldn't get through, someone on the bus said a 23-year-old had died. It's so sad, I feel so sorry for his family." Another woman said: "It's dreadful, we didn't hear the crash but we saw all the lights and came outside afterwards and saw the paramedics working on him. It's so sad, 23-years-old, that's no age. It's sick to hear."
It comes after an 11-year-old boy was hit by car on the same road last month. One said: "We can't let our kids play out on this [side] road anymore."
Another added: "I feel sorry for his mum, can you imagine waking up to be told that news? That's awful." Gorton councillor Julie Reid said she was "shocked, horrified and upset" to learn of the tragedy in the early hours.
Speaking after the crash, Sergeant Andrew Page, of the SCIU, said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating incident – particularly the family of the man who sadly lost his life, and we are doing all we can to support them at this awful time. We’re working to piece together the circumstances behind this incident and will be conducting a full and thorough investigation to ensure that no stone is left unturned to establish exactly what has happened here.
“While we have one woman in custody, we are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area in the early hours – or who may have footage from around that time that could end up being crucial to this investigation.” Information can be passed onto police by calling 0161 856 4741, quoting incident 367 of July 12, or by using GMP's website.
