An elderly woman was killed in a house fire at the weekend.
Vivien Doohan, 75, died at home in Priory Park, Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, on Sunday.
It’s understood her daughter’s partner came upon the scene and tried desperately to rescue her. Neighbours in the estate also
tried to help save Mrs Doohan, who is understood to have been living alone.

But the occupant, who was widowed in 2014 following the death of her husband Tom, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her distraught daughter’s partner, who is in his 30s, was treated for smoke inhalation.
The blaze at the semi-detached house where Mrs Doohan lived broke out at around 9.30pm on Sunday.
Her body was removed from the scene and a postmortem is due to take place. Local councillor Michael Mulligan said: “Vivien’s tragic death has left people in absolute shock. She was a lovely woman.”
Gardai confirmed they are “investigating all the circumstances of a house fire in Ballaghaderreen on Sunday evening.”
