People living in Mansfield town centre were surprised as their community filled with 'friendly and polite' people was named one of the cheapest places to buy a house in Nottinghamshire. A home in the town centre will set you back, on average, £99,500, while Newgate and Carr Bank is the second cheapest area in Mansfield, costing on average £125,000.
The most expensive is Kings Walk, Berry Hill and Oakham which is on average £232,250. People living in Mansfield town centre told Nottinghamshire Live they ‘love it’ in the area and the best thing is the ‘friendly’ and ‘polite’ neighbourhood. For all Nottinghamshire, Mansfield town centre is the second cheapest place to buy a house, behind Worksop Cheapside, where a home costs £87,500.
Resident Kat Cotman, who is 52 and works at a pub, says she didn’t think that Mansfield town centre was one of the cheapest places and highlighted how nice the people are. She said: “I love it here really.

"We could have more stuff for kids to do but other than that I love it. The people are really really polite here. I do love the pubs here but we do need more. I didn’t realise it was - even though we are so close to town you’d think not.”
Another Mansfield resident, Elaine Collinge, who is 67, told Nottinghamshire Live she had recently moved to the area from Halifax and says people in the area are friendly.
She said: “I like the area and I like the people. There are a lot of people that are very friendly.
“I like going to the town. I like to go to a nice cafe in town. I didn’t know that it was one of the cheapest places to live.”
Daniel Ciortan, 18, a music student, who lives with his parents in Mansfield town centre also says the people are friendly and likes being close to the town's shops.
Mr Ciortan said: “It’s quiet and literally near the town centre. It’s so close to every shop. The people here and the neighbourhood tend to be very nice.”
Grant Roberts, 62, a retired motor vehicle mechanic has lived in Mansfield town centre for 54 years and says the neighbourhood is good. Mr Roberts said: “I like it here.
“I’ve lived here since I was 8 years old and I’ve lived in the same house since. In the centre of town now the hospital is gone, it's a quiet street.
“There’s crime in the alleyway, drugs and people breaking into my car. There are pluses and minuses to the town. It’s a good neighbourhood area. Everyone knows each other.”
