Negotiations Resume In Cairo For Israel-Hamas Ceasefire And Hostage Deal

French President Emmanuel Macron talks to journalists on the tarmac of Cairo airport

Negotiations over a ceasefire and a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas have resumed in Cairo, as reported by Egypt's state-run media Al-Qahera News. According to a security source, there is a renewed effort to reach a truce between the two parties. The source also mentioned that joint Egyptian-Qatari initiatives are underway to facilitate progress in the upcoming talks.

Earlier this month, discussions regarding the release of hostages and a humanitarian pause took place in Doha, Qatar's capital. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has authorized a negotiating delegation to visit both Qatar and Egypt in the near future. Notably, CIA Director Bill Burns held meetings in Doha with Israeli, Egyptian, and Qatari officials last week.

During the discussions, Burns presented a proposal that was accepted by Israel and subsequently conveyed to Hamas. However, on Tuesday morning, Israel was informed that Hamas had rejected the proposal.
