'Need to see it to believe it' - Michael Owen left 'stunned' by what Liverpool did to Manchester United

Michael Owen labelled Liverpool as "ruthless" after their 7-0 hammering of Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday evening at Anfield.

Doubles from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah were met with a goal from Roberto Firmino as the Brazilian came off the substitutes bench late on to complete the scoring.

Erik ten Hag's side, on the back of winning the Carabao Cup and progressing in the FA Cup and Europa League, came into the game at Anfield full of confidence and were fancied by football pundits to put their fierce rivals to the sword. But Jurgen Klopp and Co had other ideas.

Owen, who played for both clubs during his career, said of Liverpool to Premier League Productions: “They were ruthless. They scored virtually every chance in that second half.

"They were pretty ruthless with whatever they were given. Gakpo was ruthless... Mo Salah breaking the record. You almost need to see it to believe it. It was stunning.

“And this is the Manchester United that came into the game with everybody raving about them that they were flying high in all four competitions and won one competition, maybe an outside chance of winning the Premier League. They were coming here flying high and the question was Liverpool’s name.”
