Nectar Classic vs Casper The One mattress: Which foam mattress should you buy in Black Friday sales

If you’ve been considering investing in a new memory foam mattress, then the Nectar Classic and Casper The One are two of the best. Both are high-rated and whilst they may look similar, they do have some differences that could sway your choice.

Both mattresses are the flagship models for their brands and also feature in this year's best mattress guide for all sleepers thanks to their outstanding comfort levels and affordable price tag. Both mattresses also come with long sleep trials and generous warranty periods.

Both Nectar and Casper have launched their Black Friday mattress sales so now is a great time to invest in your next bed. In this Nectar Classic v Casper The One weigh up, we compare each mattress in terms of price, design, comfort and performance to help you decide which is the best for you.

Nectar Classic vs Casper The One memory foam mattress: Price & Trial

  • Both brands run regular sales, but the Nectar is cheaper overall
  • Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial and forever warranty
  • Casper offer 180-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty

If you're basing your decision on price, then Nectar wins as its usual sale price is lower than the Casper The One in all sizes. For this reason, Nectar tops this year's best memory foam mattress guide, thanks to its great value for money and suitability for all kinds of sleepers.

Even at full MSRP the Nectar remains good value but thanks to the ongoing Nectar mattress sales you'll never pay full price. Right now, you can save over 50% on the Nectar Classic bringing the cost of a queen down to just $649 (was $1,563). The Nectar Black Friday sales also offers an extra $100 off when you spend over $1,000.

The Casper The One sits in the mid-range tier when at full MSRP but just like Nectar, there's always a sale on so you'll never have to pay full price, bringing this mattress firmly down in to the mid-budget range. The Casper mattress sale takes 30% off the mattress, which is better than the 25% we're used to seeing. This means a Casper The One queen size will cost you $799 (was $999).

Both mattresses come with impressive perks. You get a generous 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty at Nectar, adding extra peace of mind with your purchase. At Casper, you get 180-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. Whilst the Nectar deal may seem a lot better, it's worth remembering that all mattresses have on average a 10 year lifespan, so the Casper warranty will see you through the entire life of the mattress. Plus it only takes around six weeks to get used to a new bed making the 180-night sleep trial perfectly adequate.

Nectar Classic vs Casper The One memory foam mattress: Design & Materials

  • Both are all foam beds
  • Nectar has a slightly deeper profile at 12" compared to Casper's 11"
  • Both have a breathable cover for extra cooling power

Both mattresses are made using an all-foam design. The Nectar has a 12-inch profile and is made up of three internal layers. It starts with a cover which is cool to the touch before a 1” layer of therapeutic memory foam.

There is then a 3” transition layer followed by a 8” ActiveSupport base layer. It’s made using CertiPUR-US foams and all of this is wrapped up in a non-shift, heavy-duty fabric cover.

The Casper has a similar design, it’s not as deep only measuring 11”. It has a soft, breathable knit cover before the first layer of breathable flex foam which can prevent overheating.

There’s then a layer of align memory foam before the Casper Core layer which offers a supportive base and helps to stop dipping and sagging over time.

Nectar Classic vs Casper The One memory foam mattress: Comfort & Support

  • Both mattresses come in one firmness level
  • The Casper is good for back and stomach sleepers
  • The Nectar is a good choice for side, back and combination sleepers

The Nectar Classic is a medium-firm mattress but still offers that perfect balance of softness and support. There is a little sink-in softness with this mattress thanks to the layer of pressure-relieving memory foam which is why it's one of the best mattresses for side sleepers

The responsive support layer also helps to keep proper spinal alignment so whilst you’ll get that contouring feel, you won’t dip too far in to the mattress that you’ll feel stuck. Although, heavier sleepers and stomach sleepers may find it sinks in a little too much. Our panel of testers for the Nectar Classic mattress review agreed that it's a medium firm feel, around 6.5/10.

The Casper The One mattress is also medium-firm, but it offers a slightly firmer surface which back and stomach sleepers will find super comfortable and supportive. The top layer of breathe flex foam is designed to give the mattress a responsive feel so it’s easy to move around at night.

The layer of align memory foam should also offer excellent pressure relief, especially around the shoulder and hip areas. The firm foam base means that you won't get the same body-hugging comfort that you expect from traditional memory foam mattresses, which is good news for heavier sleepers but light-weight side sleepers may find it a bit too firm.

Both of these mattresses do well when it comes to motion isolation, but you will feel additional movement with the Casper The One as it's a more responsive surface than the Nectar Classic. However, if you’re battling with a restless sleeper or pets jumping on and off the bed, you should find you’ll enjoy more disruption-free nights.

Nectar Classic vs Casper The One memory foam mattress: Temperature control

  • Casper The One has a layer of Breathe Flex foam for additional airflow
  • Both mattresses sleep cool for all-foam beds but maybe too much for hot sleepers
  • Nectar Classic has a breathable, cooling top cover

When it comes to the best cooling mattresses, usually memory foam beds aren’t top of the list. That’s because they naturally sleep warmer than their hybrid counterparts, with the foam trapping the heat. However, both the Nectar Classic and Casper The One do a decent job of keeping the hot temperatures from getting out of control, although, they won’t sleep cool enough if you’re a very hot sleeper.

The Nectar Classic has a cooling top cover that’s made using cooling fibres and also has an additional antimicrobial treatment. This cool-to-the-touch cover ensures plenty of airflow so you don’t get a build up of heat as you sleep. In fact our lead tester for the review awarded it a 4/5 for temperature regulation, reporting that as a hot sleeper, they had no issues.

The Casper uses breathable foams within it’s design to help keep things cooler. The layer of breathe flex foam is open-cell so it enhances airflow to prevent overheating. The mattress also has a knit-cover which is naturally cooler than some synthetic fabrics. This will help sleepers stay comfortable throughout the night.

Nectar Classic vs Casper The One memory foam mattress: Which should you buy?

Buy the Nectar Classic if...

You're on a tighter budget: Both of these mattresses offer good value for money but if you are on a tighter budget then you will get a better deal with a Nectar Classic.

You want a longer sleep trial: Nectar offer a 365-night sleep trial which is longer than the 180-nights Casper offer.

You're a side sleeper: The Nectar Classic is a good all round mattress suitable for almost all sleep styles but it's excellent when it comes to side sleeping thanks to the extra pressure relief around the shoulders, hips and knees.

Buy the Casper The One if...

You sleep on your back or stomach: If you're a back or stomach sleeper you'll benefit from the firmer surface and lack of sinkage that comes with the Casper One.

You like a bit of bounce: If traditional memory foam is too hard for you then you'll enjoy the responsive feel of the Casper The One. It's easier to change positions at night and also that responsiveness ensures more airflow.

You don't want to sink-in to your mattress: If you like memory foam but don't like to sink in to your bed, the Casper The One offers a firmer surface without any sink-in.
