Neco Williams sends special message to Nottingham Forest fans after Liverpool transfer

Neco Williams says he can’t wait to make his City Ground debut after putting pen to paper for Nottingham Forest.

The defender has linked up with the Reds in a £17million move from Liverpool, agreeing a four-year deal. His arrival maintains a busy transfer window for the club, with six new arrivals in so far, as preparations step up for the Premier League.

Forest and head coach Steve Cooper have made clear they want to establish themselves in the top-flight, following last season’s promotion success. And Williams says the club’s ambition was part of the attraction behind his move.

“I’m really excited to join Nottingham Forest and to help this great club move forwards in the Premier League,” he told the official website. “Forest are a club with incredible history and the City Ground is a very special venue that I can’t wait to experience in full voice in the coming weeks.

“Having spoken to the head coach, there’s a huge amount of ambition being shown at the club. And I can’t wait to join up with my new teammates and get ready for the challenge ahead.”

The Wales international will have to wait almost a month to get his first taste of the atmosphere Trentside. The Reds’ first home game back in the top-flight is against West Ham United on Sunday, August 14.

He could make his debut at Burton Albion on Tuesday night, however, in Forest’s second friendly of the summer. Cooper’s men have five more friendlies to come after that, but none are being hosted at the City Ground as work is being done to get the stadium ready for Premier League football.

The club’s opening match of the new campaign is away to Newcastle United on Saturday, August 6. Williams will be part of a new-look Reds side which will line up at St James’ Park, although he already has a good relationship with Brennan Johnson from representing Wales.
