Khan's arrest in May last year prompted his supporters to take to the streets, some resorting to violence. In response, the country's powerful military undertook a comprehensive crackdown, which many individuals claim was directed by the military itself. Among those jailed was social media activist Sanam Javed, a supporter of Khan's Pakistan Tariq-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Javed, a 36-year-old mother of two, has been charged with terrorism and is accused of inciting her followers to commit acts of arson on the day of Khan's arrest. Javed adamantly denies these allegations.
Her father alleges that Javed's incarceration is an attempt by the authorities to silence dissenting voices. He believes that the charges against her are fabricated solely to harm Khan's political party, claiming the case to be politically motivated. Pakistan's Information Minister, however, refutes these claims and maintains that law enforcement agencies and prosecutors possess concrete evidence against Javed.
