NDSU WR Christian Watson dubbed Bears’ dream draft target in 2022

The Chicago Bears have a slew of needs heading into the NFL draft, including wide receiver. Darnell Mooney is the only dependable wideout currently under contract, and the Bears need to surround quarterback Justin Fields with as many weapons as possible.

There’s no doubt that Chicago will target a receiver in the NFL draft, and there are some intriguing options that could be available when Pick 39 rolls around, including Purdue wideout David Bell.

But according to Bleacher Report‘s Alex Kay, it’s North Dakota State receiver Christian Watson that should be Chicago’s “dream target.”

The North Dakota State wideout has been rapidly ascending the big boards. While the Bleacher Report Scouting Department has him as their No. 84-ranked prospect, a strong Senior Bowl showing may help him come off the board as early as the first round.

If Watson is still available at No. 39, the Bears would be wise to capitalize.

The 6’5″, 208-pound receiver missed four games in 2021 but still racked up 43 receptions for 800 yards and seven touchdowns. Watson has a knack for finding the end zone and showed he could match up with tougher competition by standing out against some of the nation’s top defenders at the Senior Bowl.

With his size and blazing 4.4 40-yard dash speed, Watson is a major threat to turn every catch into a big gain.

With Mooney in place, the Bears have some big questions in their receiving corps, where the focus should be to surround Fields with plenty of receiving options. Getting a young wideout like Watson, who possesses the kind of speed that’s enticing for a team like Chicago.
