
New Delhi: At least 18 people were killed and many others injured in a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night as a huge crowd had thronged the platform to go to Prayagraj Maha Kumbh, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Many questions from all quarters are being raised on the government and the railway administration regarding the arrangements.
Now this matter has reached the door of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The Bhartiya Human Rights Initiative for Marginalized (BHIM), a social organization working in the field of human rights, in a complaint to the Commission has demanded an inquiry into this stampede incident and a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for the kin of the deceased.
In the complaint to the NHRC, Supreme Court Advocate Om Prakash Vyas, associated with BHIM, has also mentioned the death of Soni, a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar in the stampede.
In his letter Om Prakash Vyas has said that the stampede and death incident at New Delhi Railway Station highlights the gross failure of the security arrangements for Hindu pilgrims visiting the holy Maha Kumbh Mela.

He said that this incident is the result of negligence in proper security and administrative plans despite knowing the large number of devotees making the religious journey for Prayagraj Maha Kumbh.
Om Prakash has raised five major issues in his complaint. He has demanded an independent inquiry into this incident and an inquiry into the negligence at the administrative level; to give compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the aggrieved families of the deceased; prepare a strong crowd management policy to prevent such incidents in future and fix accountability of officials and issue notice to the Chairman of the Railway Board and the Commissioner of Police of Delhi.
The complainant Om Prakash has also demended details of legal and departmental action taken against the guilty railway employees, GRP personnel and their supervisory officers.
