Filming has begun for the new Doctor Who series in Wales, staring Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth Doctor and Corrie's Millie Gibson as his companion. The much-loved television show has returned to south Wales once again and fans have recently spotted the crew at work.
On Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17, filming for the new series with Ncuti and Millie took place at at Cardiff Bay Barrage. The official Doctor Who Twitter account confirmed the sci-fi series had started filming earlier this month, on December 5.
It's reported the crew worked a night shoot on December 16, during one of the coldest nights, as temperatures fell to -13°C in some parts of Wales. A yellow weather warning was running from 9pm on Friday to 10.30am on Saturday.
The new Doctor and his companion also filmed a video of themselves at a car park at Alexandra Head, by the Barrage. The BBC released offical images of the pair in costume on Saturday with Ncuti donning a brown suit with a bright orange top. Fans of the franchise also managed to get some late night pictures, which shows filming taking place at the Barrage.
The first episode of Doctor Who starring Ncuti will air during the festive period next year after the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials - starring David Tennant as the fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate returning as Donna Noble - in November 2023.
