The coaching carousel in the Southeastern Conference continues to churn at a rapid rate.

Missouri became the latest SEC school to name a new head men’s basketball coach Tuesday with the hiring of former Cleveland State coach Dennis Gates to replace Cuonzo Martin.

“I can’t wait to get started, definitely excited to be here,” he said in a video announcement.

Gates, 42, is a Chicago native who went 50-40 in three seasons at Cleveland State, including a 20-11 mark this year, 15-6 in the Horizon League. He led the school to the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and the NIT this season.

Missouri went 12-21 last season, 5-13 in the SEC.

South Carolina on Monday hired ex-Chattanooga coach Lamont Paris.

LSU on Monday hired ex-Murray State coach Matt McMahon after Murray State lost in the second round to Saint Peter’s and Shaheen Holloway (who has been heavily linked to the Seton Hall job, which officially came open Monday when Kevin Willard took over at Maryland with a seven-year, $29.4 million deal.)

Florida hired San Francisco’s Todd Golden to replace Mike White, who took the Georgia job, and Mississippi State brought aboard New Mexico State’s Chris Jans. McMahon, Golden and Jans all got a bump from leading their teams to the NCAA Tournament.
