NCAA Coaching Carousel: Butler Parts Ways With LaVall Jordan

Butler announced Friday that it has parted ways with head men’s basketball head coach LaVall Jordan.

Jordan, 42, is coming off back-to-back losing seasons at the Big East school, and went 83-74 with one NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons. The Bulldogs finished 14-19 this season, 6-14 in the Big East.

“After a thorough evaluation, I have come to the decision that a change in the leadership of our men’s basketball program is needed,” AD Barry Collier said in a statement. “These decisions are never easy, but are incredibly more difficult when it impacts a high-character Bulldog who has represented our university so well for many years. I want to thank LaVall for his dedication to our program, and we wish him and his family all the best moving forward.”

The school said “A national search for a new men's basketball coach will begin immediately.”

Butler becomes the third Big East school to undergo a coaching change in this cycle. Xavier fired Travis Steele and replaced him with ex-Arizona and former Xavier coach Sean Miller. He was on hand Thursday night as a spectator at Madison Square Garden when Xavier beat Texas A&M to win the NIT championship.

Seton Hall on Thursday also introduced former Saint Peter’s coach and former Seton Hall point guard Shaheen Holloway, 45, to replace Kevin Willard after Willard took the Maryland job.
