With just seconds remaining in Wednesday’s contest, all signs pointed toward a road win over the Utah Jazz for the Golden State Warriors. However, the final seconds created a late heartbreaking loss for Golden State in Utah.
Following a go-ahead dunk from Jonathan Kuminga to give the Warriors a two-point advantage, the 20-year-old stopped Jordan Clarkson on the other end of the floor. After some theatrics and a scuffle, Clarkson was ejected on a flagrant two foul, giving Kuminga a chance to ice the game with a pair of free throws.
Kuminga drilled one of the two from the stripe, followed by another free throw from Jordan Poole, giving the Warriors a four-point lead with 13 seconds left on the clock.
On the next possession, Nickeil Alexander-Walker sliced through Golden State’s soft defense before finding Malik Beasley for a wide-open 3. Beasley drilled the open look, cutting the Warriors’ lead to one point with just 6.9 seconds left on the clock.
Yet, Alexander-Walker quickly stole the ball away from Poole after the inbound, giving the opportunity for the Jazz to steal the game. Beasley cruised down the court on a fast break after the steal before setting up Simone Fontecchio for a dunk at the rim to stun the Warriors in the final seconds, 124-123.
Golden State’s shocking loss overshadowed an impressive performance from Jonathan Kuminga. The No. 7 pick in 2021 fueled a comeback attempt for the Warriors, recording 24 points off the bench on 10-of-13 shooting from the field with five rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes.
Following Golden State’s collapse in the final seconds, the NBA community on Twitter exploded with reactions. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on social media on Wednesday night.

The Warriors just lost a four-point lead in the final 7.8 seconds in Utah. Malik Beasley 3, timeout, inbound to Jordan Poole, steal and transition layup to seal it for Jazz. Toughest loss of the season for Warriors. pic.twitter.com/007OpP9BmD

Unreal how badly the Warriors blew this game to the Jazz.
Up 4, leaving Malik Beasley – 39% from 3 – completely wide open.
Up 1, weak ball control on the inbound.
That'll go down as one of the most unthinkable comebacks of the entire NBA season. pic.twitter.com/wU46KnUIUx

Klay was the most experienced vet on the floor and he should have been leading this young team on a night like this. Instead, he completely falls asleep for God knows what reason. Dude's just floating and watching as if he's sitting on the bench. Literally in no man's land. https://t.co/K0UayHL1ms

The Giants are a perennial bridesmaid, the 49ers are cursed and the Warriors are inventing new ways to lose.
I am down bad.

Warriors are now 13-13. I figured this would be a loss without Curry, etc., but the way they did it was very, very non-good. Next 7 games:
-Home vs. BOS (no Wiggins)
-at MIL
-at IND on BTB
-at TOR
-at NYK
-at BKN on BTB
-Home vs. MEMVery real possibility GSWs are 14-19 soon

Warriors just smoked 2 straight games where they should be going into this road trip 4 games over .500

That looked like a play out of a high school championship game. Just pure hustle and aggression on defense turning into much needed quick offense.
Wow. Kudos to the Jazz for those last plays. Tough loss for the Warriors.

Looks like Poole was fouled twice. The tackle by Olynyk was the most egregious
But if he had made both free throws … Also, Sacramento had the same gripe earlier this season
— Marcus Thompson II (@ThompsonScribe) December 8, 2022
Nope. Absolute embarrassment.
— Did The Warriors Win? (@DidTheWarriorsW) December 8, 2022
It looked like he was rushing to get off that first free throw before they reviewed the elbow to Olynyk — who should’ve been given a delay of game warning for just standing in the paint. https://t.co/pxaYpfiTuS

12/7 Recap:
-Aaron Judge signs with the Yankees
-Kyle Shanahan says despite no surgery, Jimmy G still
probably won't play again this season
-Dubs blow a four point lead in 10 seconds.I miss anything?

OK 1ST THE JUDGE NEWS THEN A @warriors COLLAPSE !!! YOU KIDDING ME @celtics NEXT
— DaryleTHEGURUJohnson (@DDDGURU) December 8, 2022
From Jimmy's injury to the Judge false alarm to this Dubs loss. I'm sure the Bay Area has had uglier weeks in sports, but man this one has had some rough headlines.

Lost in the post foul fireworks between Jonathan Kuminga and Jordan Clarkson is what is probably the most important defensive stop of the game in isolation against a high-level scorer pic.twitter.com/VKVCegHus4
