Things got super awkward on NBA TV late Friday night between studio host Chris Miles and analyst Sam Mitchell. Which is not something you expect to see just as the preseason is getting underway.
Yet after what seemed like an obviously playful quip about the long-standing Olympics policy of not rewarding coaches medals in team sports, Mitchell started to reveal some very personal details about his co-host.
Miles joked that Mitchell — who coached in the NBA for six seasons after his playing career ended — should do the show pro bono in the spirit of the Olympics.
That set Mitchell off. A stunned Miles tried to de-escalate the situation and change the topic but Mitchell kept going on about Miles’ homes and salary while warning him about making these kinds of jokes.
It was all so odd and uncomfortable. Take a look.
One of the most awkward sequences you'll ever see on live TV. While filling time before the Kings/Warriors tip-off, Sam Mitchell does not take kindly to being the butt of a joke related to his NBAtv salary and doesn't hold back 👀👀pic.twitter.com/9gVNdHBnK7
